In its report “Dare to Share” the OECD places Germany’s experience in promoting equal partnership in families in an international perspective. The report compares parents’ opportunities of a good work-life balance, their actual division of paid and unpaid work as well as the supporting infrastructure and the influence of political measures across OECD member states.

Attitudes regarding the compatibility of employment and family life have significantly changed over the last couple of years. Nowadays most parents in Germany want to share their responsibilities equally. Furthermore there is a demand to develop and introduce political measures supporting good work-live balance. The OECD encourages Germany to build on the important reforms in family politics since the mid-2000s to enable both fathers and mothers to have careers and children, and urges families to “dare to share”.
